Jesse Hiatt's sound is an uplifting and unique blend of California, New Orleans, West Africa and Motown soul. He is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. His first album: "Choose Your Road" won 'Record of The Year' at the 20th annual Los Angeles Music Awards in 2010.
Jesse grew up in Berkeley California, and started playing piano when he was six years old. He showed promise with Mozart and Chopin, but quickly gravitated instead towards Scott Joplin, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Little Richard. Before out of high school he was already playing blues and funk gigs all around Oakland and the Bay Area. At 22 he had his first studio in Emeryville, California and was on the road with legendary funk/soul outfit "What It Is" opening up for Maceo Parker and James Brown.
After working as a live and studio engineer for several years, including on the main stage of Jazz Fest in 1995, mixing monitors around the country for Larry Graham and Graham Central Station, and a 2 year tenure as head engineer of UFO studios in Berlin, Germany, he returned to UC Santa Cruz to finish his degree in Marine Biology. After graduating in 2004 he opened a large music and multimedia facility: "Burning Cat Studios", in Santa Cruz, where he produced and recorded his critically acclaimed debut record: "Choose Your Road". The record features Jesse on multiple instruments and performances from some of the finest musicians in Northern California, including Jerry Martini and Cynthia Robinson, founding members of Sly & The Family Stone.
After 5 years, he closed Burning Cat Studios and moved to New Orleans, the source of so much of his musical inspiration, and home to so many of his heroes. In a very short time, he has established himself as one of New Orleans most exciting new songwriters, musicians and band leaders, and finds himself on stage with an amazing lineup of local all-stars.
Jesse Hiatt is a true multimedia artist: He writes songs, plays keyboards, guitar, bass and drums, produces records, mixes live sound, builds studios, repairs instruments, creates photography, art, graphics and 3D animations, and shoots and edits video. He currently resides in New Orleans, Louisiana where he is recording, performing and working on his second album.
